Update: EITC and ACTC Delayed Refunds

Here’s a quick update for Earned Income Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit filers with delayed refunds, as mentioned in this post.

If you are one of the filers whose tax refund has been delayed due to the requirements of the PATH Act, the IRS has announced that they will be updating the refund status on “Where’s My Refund” (both web and mobile) “a few days after February 15”.  The update will show projected deposit dates.

Your tax software provider will not know your refund date until the IRS updates its information, so they will not be able to furnish additional updates until that time.  Contacting your software provider or the IRS will not speed your refund, nor will it provide you any additional ‘inside’ knowledge.

If there are no processing issues with the tax return, the first filers can expect to see the refund hit their bank account the week of February 27.  If direct deposit was not selected, the refund will be delayed a few additional days.  If an in-depth review of the tax return is required, an additional delay can be expected.
